It is a real pleasure to be here with you for this exciting and important announcement.
I would first like to thank the entire team from Economec Electro-Medical Equipment, better known as Medical Design, for welcoming me this morning and organizing this press conference.
I am here on behalf of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, the Honourable Navdeep Bains.
Mr. Bains is also the Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED).
I take this opportunity to pass along his very best wishes.
The Government of Canada is committed to supporting innovation and promoting its role in the growth strategies of organizations and businesses. Because it focuses on innovation, production capacity and the marketing of creative solutions, the project we are celebrating here today will have economic benefits for the town of Boisbriand and the entire region.
Medical Design is an innovative medical equipment company and it has developed a strategy to achieve its growth objectives. Although its clients already include several major hospitals in Quebec and the United States, it hopes to increase and diversify its clientele by expanding its presence in international markets.
The Government of Canada supports the ambitions of Medical Design, which is making a significant contribution to the regional economy. I am therefore happy to announce that Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions is granting Medical Design a repayable contribution of $150,000.
This funding is being provided through CED’s Quebec Economic Development Program. It will enable Medical Design to implement a marketing strategy in the United States and conduct exploratory missions to South America.
It will also help this SME to acquire new production equipment that will increase its productivity and competitiveness. This project should enable the company to create 10 new jobs. This will bring to 30 the number of high-quality jobs that Medical Design is providing to people of this region.
