Canadian Heritage grants an investment of $55,000 to 4 Korners
BOISBRIAND, June 1st 2018 –
It’s with great pleasure that Linda Lapointe, MP for Rivière-des-Mille-Îles, announced an investment of $55,000 over 3 years to a not-for-profit organization from Deux-Montagnes. This funding has been made available through the Action Plan for Official Languages.
“I’m very pleased that our government understands the challenges that official language minority communities are facing, and has developed an Action Plan for Official Languages 2018-2023 to help address some of these challenges” said Mrs. Lapointe.
4 Korners is exactly the kind of community organization that this Action Plan targets. This not-for-profit organization works to help people of all ages from the English-speaking minority in the Laurentians area. 4 Korners has built a network to facilitate access to information, resources and services in English. “Organizations like 4 Korners are pillars for their community. They really understand the needs of the English-speaking community” mentioned Lapointe.
With the Canadian Heritage grant, 4 Korners will be able to support two community revitalization projects. The first project is a mural in the community hall of Deux-Montagnes. A local artist and local English high school students will contribute to the project. This mural will improve the public environment of Deux-Montagnes and will be used by both language communities. The second project has provided a public space for open mic events once a week at Totumos café. Every Friday evening since May 25th, local English high school students can go to this place to play and perform as they desire.
“This is clearly an opportunity to value our culture by supporting an official language minority community here in Deux-Montagnes. I’m really proud to be part of a government that cares about our linguistic duality” added MP Lapointe.
