Joint public consultation on the legalization and strict regulation of cannabis:
Thank you for your participation !
THÉRÈSE-DE-BLAINVILLE, September 19, 2017 – Members of Parliament Linda Lapointe and Ramez Ayoub are very pleased with the number of people who participated in the public consultation on the legalization and strict regulations of cannabis, which took place on September 13, 2017 at the Thérèse-de-Blainville Cultural and Community Centre.
With the objective of informing and answering to citizens’ questions related to the two bills on cannabis, the consultation examined, first of all, Bill C-45 enabling legalization and then Bill C-46, which will establish a new federal framework on impaired driving.
“We are satisfied not only by the quantity of people from the area who responded to the invitation, but also by the quality of our citizens’ questions. Our panelists have, I am sure, been able to answer several concerns of the citizens of the Basses-Laurentides, “says Ramez Ayoub, Deputy for Therese-De Blainville.
The three panelists were: Joël Lightbound, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Louis-Hébert, Michel Picard, PhD, Member of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Montarville as well as Dr. Éric Goyer, Director of the CISS for Laurentides.
For the MPs, this kind of democratic exercise is well appreciated by the people of the Basses-Laurentides:
“Organizing public consultations is the essence of a healthy democracy because it is important to understand the worries of the population on the issues that affect them. I think people had questions about this, and now they have a better idea of the federal legislative framework in relation to the legalization of cannabis. “Adds Linda Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Rivière-des-Mille-Îles.
