Women in business and international trade; top topics discussed during the visit of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade in Rivière-des-Mille-Îles

SAINT-EUSTACHE – Friday, September 15, 2017 – Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade Pamela Goldsmith-Jones, at the invitation of Member of Parliament for Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Linda Lapointe, was in Saint-Eustache for two information activities with business people from the region.

Breakfast meeting on the Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement with the European Union

Organized by MP Lapointe’s office, the Parliamentary Secretary for International Trade participated in an information breakfast on the benefits and business opportunities of the Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement with the European Union (CETA).

On 21st of September, CETA will come into force provisionally, until all the EU countries sign. Although provisional, this agreement will allow the collapse of more than 9000 import and export tariffs, resulting in 98% of tariff barriers being lifted.

“The objective of this breakfast was to share information and resources with local businesses that want to import or export. Some companies are already doing so and are pleased with CETA coming into force. For others, it is an opportunity to explore new business opportunities. ‘’ said MP Linda Lapointe.

Coffee-chat: Women in Business

In the afternoon, the member for Rivière-des-Mille-Îles invited businesswomen from the region to a coffee-chat. It should be noted that promoting women in business, particularly in international trade, is at the heart of the Trudeau government’s priorities. For the occasion, a dozen women in business from Rivière-des-Mille-Îles were able to share the challenges of being a woman in business, an event well received by the participants:

“As a businesswoman having taken over the family business, it was important for me to meet and hear dynamic businesswomen from the region on future challenges with my colleague Pamela. “adds Linda Lapointe.
